The Chimay Blue is a dark ale with a powerful aroma. Its complex flavor improves with passing time. The 75-centiliter version (since 1982) is called ''Grande Réserve'' because of its great storage potential., It was first brewed as a Christmas beer by the monks of Scourmont Abbey in 1956. But after its great success, it was decided to offer it permanently.

0.75l bottle, shared by Pavel D - was supposed to be for Slavia winning the 22/23 season... that was delayed, but... Here we are now. Clear brownish, off-white head. Vinuous caramelly grapey aroma, Belgian yeast in full force, well integrated alcohol, lightly dusty. Warming lean caramelly honeyish, dried fruit taste, mildly prickly carbonation on a smooth body, not much alcohol presence taste-wise, mild oxidation in form of dried figs kinda working. Nice to try it, excellent drinkability for the ABV!

75cl bottle (BBF: 04/2027) from L’ Auberge de Poteaupré. F: huge, long lasting, tanned. C: dark brown with coppery hue against the light, non-transparent. A: roasted malt, pears, bit chocolate, dates, brown sugar, earthy tones, hint of raisins, dark dried fruits, spicy mix, orange peels. T: full malty base, roasted malt, raisins, brown sugar, dried plums, spicy, banana, hint of milk chocolate, espresso, caramel, apples, average carbonation, very nice after two years, fully enjoyed for sure.
