Bottle shared for Sjogro's birthday. Slight hazy golden with lovely visible carbonation and bright white head. Massive dank funk, oak, rhubarb, orange zest, mineral water, zesty grapefruit. Over light sweet and sour. Solid medium bodied with strong spritzy carbonation. Very nice!

Bottle. Golden color with white head. Aroma is superbly aromatic rhubarb, cheese, leather. Taste is the same, extremely aromatic, perfect balance, super drinkable. Low-ish carbonation, oily mouthfeel. Amazing stuff.

Oud Beersel’s lambic infused with rhubarb, created in 2018, now coming in bottled and backblended form to spark refermentation, so justly a new entry on this site. Egg-white, frothy, medium thick, opening and eventually dissipating head, ochre-tinged hazy apricot blonde robe. Aroma of damp earth and barnyard (even manure for a moment), actual rhubarb indeed but somehow a tad less strong than the earthy notes, dried lemon peel, green apple, freshly crushed gooseberry, wood sorrel, dry old wood, dusty attic, hay, goat stable, sour grape, old Parmigiano rind, wet clay, damp straw. Crisp sour onset, oxalic acid from the rhubarb mingled with the lambic’s natural acids, rhubarb flavour clear but embedded in impressions of green apple, sour grape and gooseberry, all laced with minerally, finely but enthusiastically tingling carbonation; a lemony sourness, from the oxalic rhubarb acid and fruity lactic acid, accompanies a bready core, with the lactic element becoming more yoghurty further on. Astringent tannic woodiness and sourness dry the finish, but not to the point where it becomes wryly bone dry – instead, the rhubarb element and lambic acids remain united and maintain a refreshing fruitiness till the last drop. Some vague funky notes (damp hay) and earthy elements are present, but the earthiness I got orthonasally, turns out somewhat less strong in the actual flavour. Balanced, refreshing, elegant lambic, somehow a tad less rhubarb-forward and explicitly rhubarb-tasting than rhubarb lambics made by e.g. Tilquin or 3 Fonteinen, but nevertheless a meaningful addition to Oud Beersel’s range – I am a fan.

750mL bottle at Bierhuis Oud Beersel, pours a clear pale golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out soft rhubarb notes upfront, with gentle earthy funk and a touch of old leather. Flavour is moderately tart and earthy, with plenty of earthy rhubarb, subtle old leather, and a touch of acidic citrus. Earthy, tart finish. Complexity factor is not very high but the rhubarb character is pleasant.
