Funky, tart and sourish with some musty farmyardy yeastiness, fruits and grapey notes. Quite fruity and funky. Pretty nice

Rum barrel aged muscat (grape lambic) by Bofkont, thanks Goedele for sharing at Wild Festival Groningen! Waferthin, interrupted, open, off-white ring of foam yet no real head, hazy ochre-tinged peach blonde robe. Aroma of muscat grapes indeed, strong old dry sherry, sherry vinegar, hazelnut oil, old oak wood, wrinkled and oxidized apple slices, lemonbalm, white rum but subtly so and in a herbal manner reminiscent of green tea or even patchouli. Sharply fruit-acidic onset, sour grapes galore but also a more ‘hidden’ ripe muscat grape sweetness and floweriness, softish carb, deep lactic tartness drying a supple cereally core but maintaining a fruity character matching well with the grapes. Grape skin and woody tannins in the end, drying but still very colourful with this herbaceous character (herb tea, patchouli, dried coconut flakes) returning – an effect I can only ascribe to the rum, though the muscat grapes with their floral and nutmeg-ish base character no doubt accentuate it. Generously ‘graped’ with lovely oxidized sherry effects, while those herbal aromas add further complexity, all tied together into one concentrated ‘ball’ of flavour – this is a highly intelligent, sophisticated lambic for sure. Too bad these Bofkont blends are so damn hard to obtain even within Belgium!

Muscat. Bit funkier than the others. Not so much Muscat somehow. Nice sourness.
