St. Bridget, a legendary Irish saint, created a sensation by turning her bathwater into beer. What better way to celebrate her worthy miracle than with our zymurgistic tribute to her feat, St. Bridget’s Porter. St. Bridget’s is a smooth, elegant, and chocolaty brown porter. Brimming with coffee and chocolate characteristics from dark barley malts, St. Bridget’s is carefully hopped to provide the perfect complement to its malty robustness.

bottle - Pours black with a medium head that leaves a little lacing. The excellent aroma features prominent coffee notes. The taste is true to style with prevalent roasted malts including coffee and chocolate flavors. It’s also well hopped, keeping the heavy roast malt from overwhelming the beer. It has a medium body and a dry, hoppy finish. I recommend this porter as a quality example of the style.

Pours brown with an orangey red tint and a fairly large foaming khaki head. Mild roast and chocolate aroma, some iced coffee. Mocha flavor, with a mild roasted finish. Medium body, almost velvety mouthfeel but for high carbonation and a slight husky, tannic astringency. A pretty good porter.

Bottle Pours a clear deep very dark redish brown witha very large and dense, lasting light tan head. Aroma is that common dark roasted slightly burnt sharp sourness. Some cocolate notes as well. Flavor is nice, roasted bitter chocolate and a little mocha. Feel is quite thin but nice and slick. Carbonation is moderate and all in all quite good.

I got this one in my beer club. I am not familiar with the brewer. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a large creamy light brown head. The aroma was chocolate and roasted malts. The flavor is dry roasted malt and light dry chocolate. The roasted malt lingers dryly on the finish.

[Sampled at the brewery] A deep red-brown beer with a disappearing brown head. The aroma is sweet roasty with lovely chocolate notes. The flavor is sweet with loads of chocolate and some notes of dry wood.

This develops a big tan head that fills with large holes as it tries to die off, sticking to the sides all the way down. Rich malt and chocolate aroma, almost like warm brownies in the pan. Sweet and choclatey, with a roast malt finish that’s slightly bitter. Nicely done.

Dark brown coloured body almost completely opaque with a large dense tan head...very nice! Aroma of roasted malt, nuts, raisins, light coffee and a tiny bit of milk chocolate (~40% cacao). Medium-bodied; Strong nuttiness up front following with malt and a strong coffee presence. Aftertaste shows some bitter malt and a strong nuttiness lingering. Overall, I saw this more of a ’nut’ brown ale rather than a porter, but to all their own. I sampled this 12 ounce bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on Thanksgiving Thursday 25-November-2004 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
