Our "King of Winter Beers" is a true winter warmer at a strength of 7.5% abv. The beer is a deep, rich brown and has a very full, fruity body. The use of Roast Barley, in particular contributes to the complex flavours, a strong hop character predominates.

Beer of the month december, Café Morshuis Albergen. Real ale served from a keg, can you believe it?Served way too cold, so it is hard to smell the obviously hoppy aroma. Malty flavor with loads of hops. I can even taste something like dry hopping is used. A very strong flavor, certainly not too alcoholic. Great beer!

Cask at the 22nd Cambridge Winter Ale Festival, as "Winter Warmer". Pours tawny brown with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel, fruit, hop and light spice. Medium plus sweetness, light bitterness. Medium to full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation. Enjoyed this.

Cask gravity at White Cliffs BF 2007. Chestnut colour with thin beige ehad. Some peppery hop on aroma. Pretty good strong malt in mouth. Plenty of flavour. Peppery hop finish. Some choc as well in mouth.

Cask conditioned at the 32nd Cambridge Beer Festival, gravity dispense. Simply called "Elgood’s Winter Warmer" at the festival, and the ABV was listed as 7.2%, not 7.5%, but I take it that this must be the same beer? No other winter warmer is mentioned at the brewery website. The brewery had kept a cask of this winter seasonal for the festival in May. Brown to mahogany colour, minimal carbonation, no head. Caramel, leather and dark fruits in the aroma. Warming mouthfeel, sweet but not cloying. Spices, dark fruits and treacle in the flavour. Hoppy finish. Not bad.

Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm. Ruby colour. Appley aroma with lots of cherries and malt. Sweet and rasiny. Full bodied, brandyish and warming with low hop rate but loads of malt. Salty, tarry finish.
