Samuel Adams Hefeweizen has a traditional spin on a classic American craft brewing style. This crisp, fruity wheat ale is cloudy, because the yeast has not been filtered out. Bavarian Spalt hops give the ale a crisp elegance, that is not bitter and leaves a clean aftertaste. Cheers!

Absolutely hideous. Easily the worst weiss I have ever had. Tastes like syrup mixed with low quality beer.

Ash and a touch of butter in the aroma. Seems thick, but is only medium bdoied. Buttery mouthfeel. Ash, yeast, and the slightest hint of banana. A bit herbal. Totally not German-like hefeweizen.

Bottle pour into shaker pint glass. Appearance is lightly hazy, light orange-yellow with fair sparkle, finger-width, white foamy head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is banana, yeast, wheat. Taste is as aroma. Palate is light-to-medium bodied, with thin, frothy texture, soft-to-average carbonation and crisp finish as taste. Overall, not the boldest of flavors but the elements are there for the style.

Bottle at home in Canaan, NH. Pours unclear honey-gold with a modest, creamy white head. Doughy wheat in the nose, a little ripening tangerine. Medium sweet flavour, more doughy wheat bread, some sugar cookie, yeast. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Basic finish, yet more dough, low bitterness, mellow yeast expression, wheat flakes, nips of lemon peel. So sonovwrall. Drinkable.

Pours amber with a thick head. Lots of carbonation. Aroma is typical of a Hefeweizen, cloves and spices. Tastes strongly of bananas. Overwhelmingly actually. Palate is more complex than I would have guessed, cloves and nutmeg compliment the banana. Not a bad beer but the too-strong banana taste undercuts the upsides of this beer.

Bottle from the mixed case from BJ's Slightly hazy light golden with a bubbly white head. Light clove some banana and lots of bready maltiness with faint earthy spicy hops. Drinkable but too mainstream to be considered a German Hefe.

This is really bad. Surprisingly bad, like Sam Adams really had to go out of their way to make it this bad. Tangy weird aftertaste. But yet watery and thin at the same time. Bottle from mixed six.

12oz bottle. Slightly hazy orange-tan body. Thin, steady, white head. Pretty straightforward US example, not really nailing it, but not off in any way either. Decent balance, certainly quite drinkable. Lacks the finesse of the German greats, but is still OK.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, best before 10/2017. Pours fairly hazy pale golden/yellow color with a 2 finger dense, creamy, and rocky white head with amazing retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, banana, bubblegum, clove, pepper, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, bready malt, and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big lemon, pear, apple, banana, bubblegum, clove, pepper, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal/grassy hop bitterness and yeast spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, pear, apple, banana, bubblegum, clove, pepper, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, bready malt, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Minimal dryness from bitter/spiciness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is awesome. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.4%. Overall this is a great hefeweizen! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, bready malt, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink. Very flavorful for the ABV, perfectly balanced yeast and malt flavors; with just enough bittering hops to balance. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

This review was imported from my RateBeer ratings.

12 oz. bottle.

AROMA: Scents of lemon, banana, hay, and caramel.

APPEARANCE: Hazy and golden, with a tall, white, tight-froth head that dissipates slowly.

TASTE: Moderately sweet with flavors of orange citrus, wheat, and spices.

PALATE: Medium bodied with a slick texture. Average carbonation and a moderate finish.

OVERALL: There’s really nothing special about this beer. It’s not bad and it’s not great. It’s a little on the sweet side, but not sticky sweet. And it’s easy to drink with a nice aroma.
