Rich Warming Ale
Hops: Sovereign and Cascade
A rich winter beer fermented over 7 days to give a pleasant dry finish. Brewed in October to give time for the beer to condition and allow the flavours of crystal and chocolate malts, Pilgrim, Sovereign and Cascade hops to mingle. Not your run of the mill sweet sticky winter warmer

Light beige frothy head left a cover on a rich oak coloured still body. Malt & dark sugar aroma. Thick, cloying & a slight fizz on the back. Malty burnt tastes to the fore with caramel & toffee followed by a long tangy back of hops & citrus. A good twist on an English Bitter.

500ml bottle from Saucy Pears. Worcester. Deep ruby colour with a slightly off white head. Aroma has hints of caramel and malts. These come through stronger on the taste with some toast. Just a touch thin.

This is a new rate from 11th Dec 2015 and a whole lot better than what I wrote in 2011. Just a damn sight better than the obviously infected/shitty bottle from before. This bottle is malty, well carbonated and nicely spiced, clean looking and generally worth drinking: pleased I gave the beer another chance. New higher score. Bottle conditioned (500ml bottle), best before the end of April 2011. Drank and reviewed during a random British Beer Tasting Evening at my house during Jan 2011. Poured into an ’Abbot Ale’ pint glass tankard: Murky ruby red with no head at all. The smell and taste are very intertwined, sweet malts, nutmeg, cinamon and raisins, strange. Poor carbonisation, almost flat and likeless, stale like. Very disappointed to be honest.

Bottle from the Hop Pocket, Bishops Frome, Herefordshire, 11.09.10 consumed 15.09.10 Pours murky brown head disappeared sharply. Nice fruitiness on nose, touch of yeastiness, good maltiness. The flavour is really good there is a dark chocolate rush but its very bitter cocoa orientated, challenging and hard but good, this is backed up by a solid fruity tang. Really likeable, not in the least bit sweet, sticky (as suggested in description) or cloying. A7 A3 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5
