A subtle red beer dominated by neither malt sweetness nor extreme hop. We want ‘balance’. Roast malts, whole English aroma hops and bottling with live yeast are the keys to refreshment and drinkability. Great with cheese.

23/7/2022. Bottle from Beers of Europe, shared at the ITFC pre-season gathering. Pours almost clear dark gold with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma of caramel, malt, some butter, metal, veg and starch. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness. Medium body, oily watery mouthfeel, average carbonation. Wasn't great.

Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Appearance - golden amber, slightly off white head. Nose - green grapes, apples, kiwi, that sort of thing. Taste - malt dominant, a bit chewy and the green fruits that were on the nose, are quite suppressed now. Palate - chewy and medium bodied. Dry, edge of astringent bitterness. Overall - a bit challenging.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Slightly red, probably more dark blond colour. Little white head that doesn't last long. Aroma is a quite biscuity, bit hoppy citrus, and quite sweet with a herbal twist. Taste is initially weird, slightly stale, but progresses into something malty with a bitter finish. Feels a bit thin in the mouth, but has something indescribable about it. Lingers in the mouth for a while afterwards. Confusing but interesting. --- Beer merged from original tick of Ivanhoe on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:06 - Score: Appearance - 4 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 4 | Overall - 6.
