This was taken from deep in my cellar. Last day of sale: 14-01-04. and it was fantastic in taste, I havent tasted it "fresh", but this was sweet, liqourous and lovely. If you can: Store the Stout!!!!!

Black, almost opaque color, vanishing chocolate/expresso head. Roasted coffee beans in the nose. Slightly roasted, sweetish and medium-bodied. Not very outstanding stout.

Black beer with just a rim of foxy-amber at the edges; greige thick head. Coffee, dark chocolate, Haagse dropjes nose. Again these Dutch sweets (coffee+caramel+...) Haagse Dropjes. Liquorice is evident as well. The chocolate, however - it’s there and it isn’t. Roasted malts and grains. Every sip ends in a short, slightly hoppy, definitely bitter edge. Rather light MF, fills in gradually, grist slickness. Nice not-too sweet stout. Not really my favourite style, but in this it excells. Carlsberg is seriously changing its image in my eyes, with this Semper Ardens series. Thanks to the Danish hobbits.

Very dark brown colour. Slightly roasty, cocoa-like aroma with hints of nuttiness. Full, creamy body. Smooth & sweet with lots of dark malt goodness and a distinct hit of chocolate. Very pleasing dessert beer.

(700 ml bottle). Pours very dark with a moderate head. Aroma and flavour of liquorice, dark chocolate and roasted malts. A bit too much liquorice in my book. Still, this is a very good stout, but not a taste experience that much better than Carls Porter - not enough to live up to the price difference IMO. I guess some of the point with the Semper Ardens range is that Carlsberg want to show the world: "Hey, we can brew good beer too - but that is VERY expensive!" Price aside, you have to give them props for trying. After they killed Wiibroe Imperial Stout Porter, Carls Porter is the only surviving moderately priced quality Carlsberg beer - innovation is reserved for the Semper Ardens range, just pay and be happy!

Very dark color, brown head. Aroma of black chocolate, coffee, roasted malts. Taste is sweeter for a stout, again the chocolate and roasted malts. Bitter palate.

Black with a light brown head that is gone before you get a chance to look at it. Aroma of burnt malt, coffee, chocolate and the licorice in the background. The sweetness is reasonably balanced by hops and malt/chocolate bitterness.

Dark brown (almost black) colour. The head looks like the head you get in a glass of Coca Cola; weak and short-lived. Aroma of chocolate and weak coffee. Sweet-ish taste of chocolate and coffee. Surprisingly thin. Maybe the worst Stout I've ever had. Nice bottle, though.

Dark color. Some coffee in the aroma. Lot of caramel in the mouth, a coffee note. Not bad, but too simple. Not the worse of the Semper Ardens…

Bottled. Near black. Lovely aroma of anise and coffee followed by a pleasant flavour of salty licorice that lasts into the finish, but also a complete lack of adequate body. The mouthfeel is sharp and thin - where is the malt?
