Pours black with a large fading tan head.
Nose shows roasted malt, woody oak, red wine notes, sultanas and liquorice.
Similar flavours; woody oak and roast, faintly acidic red wine notes and tannins, cocoa and soft booze. Not particularly malty in the finish, more in the dry side.

Now a 2024 can. Definitely one to seek out if you like Hel & Verdoemenis - although it's a little lighter & the bitterness is a little higher. Never seems heavy but packed with interest. Stunning.

500ml bottle at School of Animals, Kuala Lumpur. Bottled 04/22. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a mostly lasting frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, chocolate, boozy alcohol. The flavour is moderate sweet, light liquorice bitter, with a smooth, rich, roasty, dark chocolate, red berry fruit, light vinous, dry, oaky, light vanilla, boozy liquorice bitter palate. Over medium bodied with soft carbonation. Pretty awesome!

Bottle, 13C. Jet black with a dense cm of tan head that never quite disappears. Aroma of milk chocolate, lean red wine, rich mocha, oak - straight away obvious this is a transformed by barrel beer, not a wet spirit barrel beer. Roasty and a bit fudgy with a (H & V-esque) Welsh Cake note. Stentorian bitter roasted and dark chocolate flavours gradually take over and are just softened a bit by vanilla and oak. Excellent.
