We incorporated our favourite rye, crystal and light roasted malts in addition to Brewers Invert Sugar No. 2 – a specialist sugar used historically in the UK and Belgium in dark, strong ales providing unique caramel/treacle flavours.
We refermented this blended Oud Bruin on 150g/l Scottish strawberries, sourced from farms located within 60 miles of the brewery.

Bottle (Balnarring Cellarbrations). Slow gusher. Clear brown with a few off whit wisps at the rim. Brooding woody, fruity and earthy aroma with some medicinal herbs. Fairly light bodied, low carbonation. Some brighter flavours - berries, acid - with the brooding ones - old wood, earth. A bit of toffee sweetness but the balance is towards tart. Good.

Brunrød farge og intet skum i mitt glass. Lukter syltetøy. Mulig jordbær. Smaker sure bær, syltetøy og karamell.

Bottle online from Cork & Cask Edinburgh. Pours amber with a runy he, off-white cap. Loads of sweet strawberry jam on the nose. Taste is light to moderate tart with plenty of strawbs coming through, along with a light vinous balsamic note. Not hugely complex but would love to try another in a couple of years

From tap at The Rusty Bucket in Eltham 10.07.22. Clear mahogany. Off-white head is diminishing to nothing. Good aroma and taste of proper Belgian bruin. There are sour berries in the taste, but I can’t taste that they are strawberries. Aslo some sawdust. Dry mouthfeel and astringent aftertaste.
