500ml can. Pours light gold with a medium, frothy head. Aroma is petrol, alcohol and a little wheat. Taste is sweet to start, with icing sugar in the finish and marzipan in the aftertaste. I maybe missing the point, but why is a beer that’s called 8.6, 7.9%?

Clear rich yellow color, whitish foamy medium head, hoppy taste medium carbonation, slightly sweet taste, long finish. As in most high alcohol beers, this has also become too sweet to enjoy.

Golden with a white head - aroma has some malt - taste has some malt and ends with alcohol heat - and the alcohol heat continues into the finish - a little to much alcohol heat

Pours a hazy golden color with a decent lacing head. Strong, grassy aroma with some malt in the background.

Gift from the Mrs:
Appearance: Clear golden, alright amount of off-white head. Slightly fizzy. Aroma: Malt and grains, nothing to get excited about. Taste: Crisp, more malt than hops. Feels a bit oily. Slight alcohol. Standard. Info: 650ml bottle, 4/5-2012

Pours a rich golden colour with a big white creamy head that has great retention and full lacing. Sweet grainy nose that is balanced between the malt and the alcohol. Thicker mouthfeel than usual, but still pretty crisp with almost a bit of dryness in the finish. Thinking this would be super sweet, but the malt is not that bad, with some alcohol to it (without the burn). Not a bad malt liquor.

On 17th Jan 2012 I wrote: I’ve just finished reviewing this beers little brother: the 6.5% ABV Gold 8.6 beer for the French market, I hope this is more balanced and better in every way. Anyway, here goes a live review: I’m pouring the 25cl brown bottle into a ’Palm special’ labelled bulbous tulip. The beer looks like a typical lager/pilsner, maybe a little more darker than most: still golden with a white head that refuses to hang around though, so very lager like. The smell is sweet and laden with alcohol: malt sweetness with apple blossom if I’m being kind, the alcohol esters however frighten me: no hop element at all. The taste is ’a headache in waiting’ this is all about the alcohol, no attempt to hide or disguise it what so ever. Malty sweetness and not much else I’m afraid. This is a brown bag on a park bench sort of beer, not my type at all.
