8 December 2024. Bottle from Stacks. Vintage 2019. Bottled: 2/12/2022.
Cloudy black, stable, thin, beige head. Strong aroma of brandy, fondant, charred wood, dried fig, prune, coffee bean, moist black pepper, tobacco, porcini, bayleaf. Taste has sweetish fig, prune & brambleberry in a dark-chocolatey, dark fudge-like malt body with a bitter middle of coffee & tobacco; a tad umami, vaguely salty even. Peppery & herbal hoppy finish (hint of liquorice), wood and warming brandy alcohol. Full body, thin oily texture, soft carbonation. Slightly thinned by the alcohol, not as complex as other iterations in this series but certainly quite 'drinkable' for a Stout of this strength. Cheers, Bart!

Black with thin head. Aroma is nicely stouty with dark roasted malt but there's wood and sweet booze too. More sweet than bitter so the cognac really influences it.
