75 cl bottle, bottled feb ’03. Cloudy orange brown. Pours wild as a horse that is told he’s not competing in the Olympics. Hops and licorice aroma and flavor. Medium to full bodied. Just a bit yeasty, apple, cinnamon. Just a bit metallic. Good beer from a great brewery.

Old school regional beer close to traditional oud bruin, dark bronze coloured with off-white head; aroma of sour grapes, nuts, caramel, grassy hops, taste dryish, a bit tart, nutty and malty, a little bit metallic with above average hop bitterness in the finish for a ’Vlumschen bruynen’. Was somewhat of a lesser classic since 1986 and one of De Ryck’s wonderfully old-fashioned brews, I have nothing against innovation but I will never understand what got into Ann De Ryck for replacing this with Arend Dubbel in 2006.

330 ml bottle. Slightly hazy dark red body with a small brown head. Aroma is sweet malt. Flavor is rather sweet, ordinary Belgium ale with a hint of sour acidity deep, deep down there somewhere. I like the style of this beer, but believe they don’t really get it right.

Bottled. Hazy brownishcopper coloured with beige mediumsized head. Barnyard, fruits, malts and weak juniper in the aroma. Flavour is fruits, juniper and malts. Not that exciting, but still good attempt.

(Bottle 33 cl) Beautiful, clear chestnut colour with a fine, beige head which stays up quite long. Very malty with roasted notes and some caramel - but absolutely no sweetness. This beer is dry, dry, dry. In style this comes closer to an "Oud Vlaams" rather than a "Flemish sour" as this completely lacks the acidity. But very fresh with a quenching late hoppiness. And the sediment hazes the last few drops. 200605

Bottled. Cloudy amber, brief lively head. Red currant aroma. Medium sweet with perfectly soft mouthfeel. Evident malt flavour backed by some grassy hops. Mild and likable.

[Draft at ZBF 2004] A clear brown beer with a fine light brown head. The aroma is sweet caramel. The flavor is boring with notes of caramel, coriander, and a dry hoppy end. A boring average beer.

(Draught) Dark brown with amber shine; burnish head, fast falling, lacey. Burnt roasted & chocolate malts, and some smoked notes when warming up. Taste is sweet, roasted. There is and acidity, but not as a stout, but similar to wheat-acidity. My least favourite from the De Ryck range. But don't give it a miss if you stumble across it.
