Aroma and taste of caramel. Thin. Little bit of tartness develops after several months. A lot of taste for such a light beer. One of the best kept secrets of the Liefmans brewery.

Very old-fashioned session beer in the Oudenaarde tradition (the name is local dialect for ’Oudenaarde’), in printed bottles; discontinued by Moortgat when they took over the Liefmans brand and already in decline at that time. Basically a watered down version of Liefmans Kriekbier, thinner, lighter, less fruity with a more straightforward profile, but still all-round ’oud bruin’ with malty sweetness coupled with woody sourishness. One of those delightfully old school Flemish beers with little chance of making a comeback, I’m afraid.

33 cL bottle. Pours almost clear and golden deep amber to brown with a fully diminished light tan head. Aroma is chemical to sweet raisin. Malty and slight metallic yeasty with a light acidic touch towards sourish. Fruity towards cherry yet also a bit on the malty side and acidic. Towards dry acidic finish, slight watery.

Bottle: Brown coloured with reddish tints, lasting beige foamy layer, lively carbonation; sourish-malty nose, balsamico too; moderate fruity sourish character, quite dry, some bitterness very late in the finish, traces of a musty "cellar" taste. Quite easily drinkable, well balanced, light and pleasant sour ale. A good beer to begin with a journey into the world of the beautiful belgian sour ales...............

(Bottle 33 cl) This is 4,5% ABV. Reddish brown, clear with a small head. Almost no body, a bit watery with some slight, metallic notes being the only obvious flavour. Prettty much no bitterness. A touch of wine vinegar with a small underlying sweetness. But formidably quenching. 190998
