We brewed our first barley wine back in 2021 which has been aging away in Fettercairn whisky barrels for 14 months. Fettercairn is a fantastic distillery located very close to Newbarns Farm in the Strathmore valley. Definitely worth checking out of you haven’t already.

The beer is very much an old school barley wine, malty, spicy, a bit like an upside down pineapple cake… This sticky beast will certainly warm your cockles to finish off this long winter season.

Can from HoTM. It pours clear mahogany brown with a small white head. The aroma is rich maltage, brown bread bread, rivita, wood, touch of liquorice, nutty, some dried fruits, fruit cake, candied peel and very subdued whisky. The taste is bitter - sweet, sticky, oily, chewy, slick, toothy, toffee, nutty, vanilla, dried fruits, fruit cake, raisin, sultana, mellow fruitiness, fudgey, barley sugar, creme caramel, whisky is only faint, but fruity and some alcohol warmth with a slick, sweet finish. Fulsome body, fine carbonation and chewy mouth feel. Perhaps a touch sweet/heavy duty, but plenty to like about this. Fun stuff.
