Tinted ruby-black, Cherry Stout gains its signature tartness from 100% Montmorency cherries grown in Michigan's Traverse City region.

Rather than doubling up on sweetness, this tart cherry varietal serves as a counterpoint to the warm, dark chocolate notes from the malt bill. Lightly hopped for balance, this stout is one of the cornerstones of our stout portfolio.

No clue where this score will end up; Bell’s Cherry Stout seems to evolve as it warms, growing more complex and intriguing once you get past the initial blast of cherry tartness. Nice chocolate baseline upon which the cherries flourish, rich and semisweet, giving a solid foundation for the fruity soul of the pint. Never grows sweet, an appreciable touch considering the style’s cherry cordial potential, and a modest but noticeable bitterness firms up the finish. Nose should be better, but otherwise a good beer.

Shared 12 oz. bottle. Almost black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate notes, and hints of cherry. Taste: begins with dark malt, coffee, and chocolate, but finishes with tangy sour cherry. Acidic. Doesn’t really work for me.

Draught. Nice mix of sweet chocolaty notes and sour, fruity cherry notes. Good with desserts or by its own.

Pitch black pour with a large thick mocha head and decent retention. Fair lacing. Dark chocolate and dark cherry licorice flavor. Not as sweet or as creamy as i expected. Decent but disappointing. 7.0 ABV is undetectable.

Pours deep black into a snifter. Mocha head with little retention recedes to skim surface. Sour cherry skin aromas. Sweet and sour cherry upfront turning to mild chocolate before returning to a lasting cherry juice finish. Didn’t pick up much stout here...

Bottle, courtesy of PotjeBier. Aroma of roasted malt, mild cherry and sweet chocolate. Taste has mild smooth cherry, choco, mild roast and some subtle tart that could be from the cherry core. Nice one.

Bottle thanks to Potjebier, small sample. Dark color, short head. Aroma of lots of roast, dark bread, some coffee and dark chocolate, not much cherry, maybe some cherry pits. In taste roasty bitterness, dark bread, coffee. Bit dry. Slight fruity cherry. I expected a bit more cherry, got lots of roast in return. Tasty though.

12 oz bottle @ home, shared with MarcodL, borresteijn & caesar. Black color. Brown head, quickly receding. Aroma’s: heavy roast, soy sauce, dark chocolate. Retronasal it’s sourish, roasted, sour cherries. Flavor is moderate sweet, some cherry, roast, hint of sourness. Medium bodied. Finishes slightly dry. cherry-ish. Quite unconventional.
