X-BEER Mini-brewery “U Medvídků” is at present the smallest Czech restaurant brewery. Because we like challenges, we got the idea to try to brew, on the contrary, the strongest beer in the Czech Republic. And in that way X-BEER, semi-dark special was born.
X-BEER is produced by traditional technology, using special procedures at different phases of production of beer. Used for the production is the Plzeň malt and caramel malt in the maximum quantity that we are still able to mash. How we achieve the high extract of the original hopped wort, will remain our secret, however, we may disclose that the high strength is achieved from barley malt only. The main fermentation proceeds in open oak fermentation tanks for 14 days. End fermentation proceeds in oak barrels for 14 weeks and then, after adding a special yeast strain, secondary fermentation proceeds for another 14 weeks.
Under the conditions of “manual” production of beer of our brewery each brewing of produced X-BEER is an original that will differ by strength. The premiere brewing has the marking X-BEER 30 which means that we produced the so-called thirty with the content of alcohol of 11.8%. From the first brewing we bottled only 500 bottles, each of them will bear its original number. The second brewing in which the phase of end fermentation started, will probably have the name X-BEER 32. We will know the exact name only on filling into bottles after the performance of the laboratory analysis.
X-BEER is beer that has no equivalent in the Czech Republic. It is remarkable by the natural malt taste with a pleasant bitter after-effect. The high content of alcohol and sugar together with higher hopping, speed up markedly the absorption of alcohol to the blood. Therefore, we recommend cautious consumption It is suitable to serve X-BEER, according to our slogan presented on the label of X-BEER, to desserts or separately as digestive.

14/10/8/9/12/9

2009 bottle. Nose of cinnamon, honey, sweet orange, some acid and pine. Lovely orange-amber color with lace. Sweet-and-sour flavor, orange, cinnamon, wood, cherry, pears, ume plums. Weird and shocking complexity but lovely. Thick, oily body. One-of-a-kind, and much better than the overly sour, lessintegrated one I had on tap. Draught at the brewpub, 2010: 6/4/7/5/14=3.6. Fruity, tangy, cherry and cereal aroma. Flavors of plums, caramel, chocolate. Sweet, rich, with a strong sour edge that I wonder might have come from dirty lines. Oxidized somewhat, like port. Big sour fruits, and a soft, velvety mouth. Good, but not in the best condition I believe.

On tap at U Medvídků on 11th July 2010. Reddish with thin smooth diminishing head. Strong caramel aroma and cherry to blackcurrant fruit in a thick viscous textured mouthfeel. Rather sweet for my liking but astoundingly easy to drink now I know how strong it was!

Swing-top bottle (trade with Koelschtrinker). Tart cherry, apple, toffee malt and astringent aroma. Cloudy dark brown color with giant head. Very sweet red cherry and toffee malt flavor with a light astringent finish. On the edge of being cloying but somehow avoids it. This is really different - hard to put a distinct label on.

A reddish copper ale with a thin moka head. In aroma, sweet fruits, prunes, maraschino cherries, vanilla extract and nice hops. In mouth, a vinous sweet ale with oily mouthfeel, licorice, light acidulated notes, rich and smooth, porto-like. BB 10 2008. Tasted Nov. 21 2009, with MartinT. Merci Martin!

It has a solid creamy beige head, murky and syrupy body and aroma filled with intensive fruitiness. Mostly blueberry, which reminds me to trappiste rochefort 10. In addition, plum and raisin notes in the aroma. Very sweet, oily flavour still with blueberries and a long aftertaste. Carbonation and alcohol was not felt at all. Commendable that it was served at room temperature. One of the best beers that i ever drink.

swing top bottle (330ml). -Dark brown coloured, small beige head that went away fast, some berries nose with touch of wood. Very sweet fruity, caramel, figs and plums and quite syrupy taste. Alcohol is subdued but there’s no excuse for heavy sweetness. Not worth 133Kč that I’ve paid for it.
