This collaboration with Counter Weight Brewing of Cheshire, Connecticut, is the next offering in the Stowe Style series: a modern tribute to the original dark beers of Bohemia. Brewed with floor-malted Pilsner and dark malts, this roasty winter lager has a subtle sweetness balanced by spicy Saaz hops and is naturally carbonated using traditional techniques.

Reviewed from notes.
Can to becher glass.
Appearance: dark brown close to black in color with a finger's worth of khaki foamy head which dissipated at it's own pace to leave some light lace
Aroma: light black coffee notes with some sweet earthy tones, light notes of sweet grains, light dark chocolate? Hmmm...somewhat, yeah that's a stretch but maybe.
Flavor: meshes the prior noted aromas to a fine roasty to sweet quality underscored by a light bitterness; finishes semi-dry with a clean bready tone now coming in
Texture: medium bodied, sessionable; good smoothness with a light dryness about it
Overall: to me, I'd say it's a nicely done dark lager well worthy of returning to.

16 ounce can from Total Wine in South Bay. Translucent dark brown color. Large rocky tan head. Spotty lacing. Subtle, roasted malt aroma hints at chocolate. Flavor is roasted malt, toffee and chocolate. Medium bodied. Flavorful. Herbal hop finish.

Can (best by 4/23/23) pour from The Beer Store, Salem. It's an opaque black with nice sparkle, thin cap of beige head with good retention and trace lacing. Aroma is strong toasted malt, bordering on coffee, with dark chocolate. Taste follows aroma. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture, average carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, good strength for ABV and decent complexity.

Been looking forward to trying this one and it didn’t disappoint. Dark brown pour and beige head about a fingers worth. Nose is roasted malt and rootbeer. Tastes the same with caramel, dark bread, raisins, dates. Chewy mouthfeel. Creamy and smooth.

Tip tap draught, 12/14/22. Dark cola-amber. Solid dark beige head atop, h alf a finger. Sticky fudge, mineral, lots of honey and just big, big malt impressions. Light roast, vanilla and chocolate. Clean. Low hop. Soft, incredibly malty, chocolatey, with vanilla fudge and very light roast and hop bitterness to balance. Mineral, clean, no alcohol. Is this seriously 4.5%?!?! It's definitely the maltiest beer I've had for its size. Hell yeah. Hops balance nicely on the very end.
