A paradox, this “light” dark lager is perfect for summer nights. Big malt flavor, with a light body and easy drinkability. Brewed with US grown, high country Moravian barley. Cereal mashed with 40% corn. Hopped with Czech grown Saaz hops, then fermented and conditioned cold with our house lager yeast. The Dresden Codex is an ancient Mayan document which was found in a library in Dresden, Germany. The codex has been used to decipher Mayan hieroglyphs, and document the history of southeastern Mexico and its people

TCBW2026. Brown colour with small off-white head. Aroma is corn,, some bread and mild herbal and grassy tones. Flavour is quite similar in a nice balance. Different, but actually easy going and refreshing. Clean.

Reviwed from notes.
Can to lager glass.
Appearance: dark brown with hints of amber along the sides and a two and a half fingers of white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: dark malts, dark bready scents, light nuts, light honey, and some sweet grains
Flavor: meshed all those prior noted aromas together in a earthy grainy sweet way; finishes earthy and dark bready
Texture: light to medium bodied, sessionable, some smoothness but also some grind from the grains, light dryness
Overall: good dark lager I'd have again.

Canned 5/15/2024, drunk 8/21/2024, thanks to Airforcehops for the can! Clear, darker amber. Large, off-white head, moderate retention. Smells to-style. Hints of hazelnut and caramel announce the darker malts, while light bread and honey create a supple base. Could it be a bit more base-malt-driven? Clean, nonetheless. Peppery carbonation with peppery hops and a hint of weak coffee. Lighter body, not thin, quite dry on the finish with some toast and more weak, watery coffee. A good deal of acidity, easily balancing the malt. Grainy. Does need a good deal more malt depth to balance the darker tones.

16 ounce can from Jenkintown brewery. Copper colored pour. Large, pillowy tan head. Spotty lacing. Mild, toasted bread malt. Sweet toasted malt flavor has a hint of noble hop bitterness. Perhaps a bit of cocoa powder as well. Amazingly smooth and drinkable. A lot like Negra Modelo, only less sweet and caramelly. Finishes dry and slightly bitter.
