12oz bottle. Boom. One sip of this and I’m in the Caribbean. Sweet, rich, over the top. Opaque brown-black, thin beige head. Big brown sugary tones. Pungent dark fruit. Vanilla. Sticky, sugary finish coats the mouth. I’d say Caribbean Stout is an acquired taste, and that this really does the style justice even though I’m sure it’s overall rating won’t reflect that. Certainly mellows a bit as it sits and approaches room temperature. Rather brutal, like a high ABV Dunkel brewed with Candi sugar. A little hot, but overall a cool beer worth a try.

12 oz twist off bottle purchased at the Beer Authority in Lake City (Seattle) Washington. Poured into my Ename Chalice. Pour is hazed black with a smallish tan head that lasts on the surface. Aroma is mild licorice and even milder roast coffee. Clean, but subdued, nose. Taste picks up a bit, again mixing the licorice and roasted coffee and malt, along with a cane sugar finish. Palate is medium bodied, soft active carbonation, velvety smooth and easy driniking. More of the cane sugar in the longish finish, but not cloying at all. Not a ton going on here, but nicely smooth. Hides the 7.6 well.

12 ounce bottle from Bestway in Greensboro, NC, which I purchased for the Jamaica tick, forgetting completely about Red Stripe. Duh. Oh well, this will undoubtedly be much better. Pours a deep brown color appearing black in the glass. Medium head with decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of slightly dirty roasted malts with some slightly acrid smokiness. I guess that pretty much means the aroma is slightly bad. The taste is roasted malts, caramel, nuts and an almost bourbon-like quality. Tart throughout. The taste is almost good, which is to say, slightly bad? Thin-medium bodied. Overall, this is slightly bad. Which is to say almost good? Or mostly good? Who’s to know? I guess that all goes to say that this is pretty much average.

Pour is a black with a smal tan head, Aroma is roasted malts with some lingering chocolate in the backround. Flavor is some sour dark fruit with a earthy malt. This is kinda wierd and i don’t think I need another.

Bottle from Malt & Vine. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a decent tan head. Aroma of dark lightly burnt malt with something lightly herbal. Medium body with rather creamy carbonation. Flavor is dark, almost with a touch of tar. A good straight forward stout. Not a trace of heat. Good drink.

Bottle (300ml): Coffee-black coloured, small brownish head; sweet coffee, dark malt and roasted malt in the nose, hints of liquorice, too; not very dry bitter flavour, medium bodied; fruity and (port-)vinous finish with a lingerin (malty-)bitter aftertaste. A good and easy-drinking Stout........

(Bottle 30 cl) Clear, dark brown with a red hue and a dense and creamy cappuchino-style head. Roasted, vinous aroma with the alcohol showing. Only a medium body, very smooth mouthfeel and mildly roasted malt accents - no ashtray here. Again the alcohol is really shining through. Not a great stout, but actually a rather pleasant drink. 090207

A very dark black beer with a faint red shine under a bubbly brown head. The aroma sweet roasted (with a bit of acidity from the roasted malt), as well as notes of coffee. The flavor is quite sweet with notes of licorice and coffee - the coffee being a bit bitter as very hard roasted coffee, the end is bitter with a weird coffee note lingering for some time. The body is surprisingly thin the ABV taken into account.
