Madrí Excepcional is a unique collaboration between the brewers of La Sagra and Molson Coors, with all the taste characteristics of a modern European lager. Full of flavour and aroma at 4.6% ABV with a light golden colour, Madrí Excepcional is crisp, clean and refreshing with a short, bitter finish.

Tap at a London pub. Clear golden color, medium sized white head. Aroma and flavor are malts, hayish, malty bitter. Hmm nothing special, but no flaws either.

500ml bottle from Zore Trgovina in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Pours a crystal clear gold color with a white head and good retention. Good lacing too. Standard pale malt aroma. The taste follows the nose, with grainy pale malt flavor and a slightly metallic finish. A serviceable macro lager offering. Medium body and medium carbonation. Low bitterness.

Can, 0.5l. Clear copper pour, three finger creamy white head, long lasting, surprisingly good retention. Solid lacing on the glass. Generic macro lager nose, sweet, malty, grainy. Corn and some grassy notes.

Light body, medium carbonation, lively. Watery mouthfeel and texture, lightweight, fizzy. Easily drinkable. Mostly sweet taste, medium bitterness in the background. Usual generic aroma. Lager malt, grass, corn, grains. Some metallic notes but nothing really offensive. Short lasting finish, sweet, dry, mild rusty bitterness.

Generic macro lager. Just what the market flooded with generic macro lagers really needed I guess. Oh well. Drinkable?.Yes. Necessary? No. Excepcional? Hell no.

0.5l can from Konzum Vrbik, made at Apatinska pivara in Serbia. Bloody. Hell. The fakest of the fake macro brands has started worming its way outside of its English (not Spanish) homeland and into other MolsonCoors markets. Not really sure why they are pushing another useless run of the mill lager into the Croatian market - I'm guessing because someone ordered they had to - and partly maybe to steal some crumbs off of Estrella which semi-established itself... or maybe so English tourists getting wasted can drink something recognizable, that reminds them of home. I don't know. But here it is, and it's a tick, and I'll get on with it so that I can safely ignore it forever (unless maybe when it's free and I'm thirsty).

Beautiful crystal clear golden body, fairly big, thick white head, falling apart a bit unevenly. Dusty sweetish maltiness is dominant in the aroma with some vague hops in the taste, with mild green apple coming through later. Acetaldehyde marks the taste too, the green apple notes showing up in between sweet soft vaguely caramelly maltiness, edged by vague floral, herbal hoppiness, bit minerally and low, low yeasty touches. It's got the smoothness the least demanding beer drinkers might appreciate, but it's not clean and it's not good. Not seeing it make any kind of foothold here unless they invest an ungodly amount of money into pushing it everywhere, with questionable payoff.

Can. This one has been brewed in Bulgaria, although there's no word about whether the Bulgarian brewers also should be regarded as collaborators. Clear gold, white head. Light crackery aroma with some grass. Thinnish, fizzy. There's pale malt there but it's a bit of a facade. A little more bitterness than expected. OK if undistinguished.
