English style barley wine, brewed in 2019 and aged in Côtes du Rhône red wine barrels for 2 years, then blended with another unique 3 month old English style barley wine and aged for a further 3 months on ripe Genoa figs and sticky Deglet Nour dates (70g/l).

Rich caramel and complex fruity layers, backed up with a smooth and gentle tannic vanilla backbone from the extended barrel aging - Giulia is a blend of sophistication and decadence.

Can. Murky brown, nice cm+ of off white head never disappears. Aroma of bread, toffee, sourish red and dried fruit, oak. Just medium bodied, creamy. Dry despite toffee, some hints of sourness. Lots of fruit but fresh rather than dried dates. Spicy finish with a little cleansing acidity. Really good, might well go as long as the "cellar release" bb of 2033.

Can. Hazy deep amber beer, decent pale tan head. Palate is airy and slightly soft, reasonable fine carbonation. Soft malts, soft creamy malts with a nice light caramel. The red wine barrel is a light touch, but still there is oaky vanilla and modest winey red berries. Far more obvious is the dates and the figs, a rounded ripe fruity richness with obvious date on the back end. Finishes smooth. A nicely conceived barleywine with layered flavours. A bit more more ooomph would not have gone amiss.

Panda at home, thanks to the Wingmane, 15/01/23. Hazed mahogany to chestnut brown with a beige cap that veers to the edge. Nose is dark malts, herb, spice, dates, toffee, nutty, light booze. Taste comprises fruit cake, spice, toffee, booze, dates, brown sugars, vinous notes. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a spike of alcohol. Ok sipper but just comes over a little tired.

Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours a lovely brunch mahogany brown with a sturdy yellowy - beige head. The aroma is sweet and intoxicating, loads of dried fruits, date, prune, raisin, booze soaked oak, vinous, dried cranberry, fruit cake, figgy pudding, toffee and jam. The taste is bitter - sweet, but with a sour edge, red wine vibes, cranberry pucker, red grape, fig, date, prune, jammy and tangy, hint of acidity, toothy, chewy, some spice, leathery tannin, hint of fizzy cherry bottles, soapy florals, charred oak, warming booze and some ashy spice through the finish. Fulsome body and fizzy carbonation. Love the aroma, but the taste is a bit sharp and astringent tbh. Good depth of flavour, but let down by being too long in the barrel, a shame.
