Bottle at home. Brown color, medium sized beige head. Aroma is heavy rum, raisins, sweet caramel malts. Flavor is malts, caramel malts, rum, raisins, cinnamon, spices, light booze, underlying malt bitterness. Medium body, soft carbonation. Nice slow sipper winter warmer.

I have a 33 cl bottle obtained from a fine Belgian seller. The glass of choice tonight is my Great Heights snifter, I open and tilt the bottle into the glass. A dark cola color finished with a creamy head of biscuit tan foam. The scent is attractive, oak, dates, hard candy and some alcohol working its way up. And the drink, well, it goes a different direction from your standard quad and that is all right. Heavy with a rum presence, dark plums, figs, caramel, malt, wood and some dark chocolate surprisingly. I call it a quadrupel cocktail.

Bottle from Delhaize (Dok Noord). Hazy dark brown, small, foamy, tan head. Aroma of wet clove, liquorice, raisin, red apple, prune, wood, toffee, varnish, brown rum. Taste has sweet red apple, raisin & pear in a malt body of toffee & brioche, surrounded by herbs & spices providing a phenolic effect. Herbal hoppy finish, lingering sweet dried fruits, bittersweet liquorice and warming rum-like alcohol. Medium body, syrupy texture, average carbonation. Enjoyable, bit too spicy perhaps.

Dark brown colour, beige foam. Nose of red fruit, caramel, a bit herbal, vanilla, rum finish. Very nice, although the Carolus version is better.
