London Porter

Bottle from Aldi, Coleshill. Dark brown to black, thin off white head. Aroma of dark malts, cofffee, quite metalic. Taste of dark malts, light roast, sweetness, coffee, cocoa powder, still a touch metalic. Dry, light to medium bodied, easy drinking. Quite poor for the style but quite drinkable.

Bottle at home picked up from Watford aldi. A clear dull nut brown coloured pour with a lasting magnolia head. Aroma is earthy nutty roast, oyster,, raisin bread, dried fruits, toffee. Palate is thin and chalky, mineral, highish carbonation. Flavour is dark malts toast, bitter roast, chalky finish. Not much too it. Probably served it too cold on my part.

Bottle from Aldi. Pours black with a medium sized creamy beige head. Aromas of roasted malts, some chocolate and coffee and light hints of nuts. Taste is more of the same notes detected in the aroma with more nuttiness coming through. Some light burnt notes coming through on the finish but with a hint of sweetness making it well balanced. Low carbonation with a thin watery body and smooth mouthfeel. The beer could do with more body but overall i think it’s a very decent Porter. Will try again in the winter time.

500ml bottle from a local Aldi: BB August 2023. Drank at home on 11th November 2022. Dark brown body, almost black, beige topping. Malty nose with both coffee and chocolate esters vying for dominance. The taste is also malts first and again with coffee and chocolate to the fore, some light fruity notes appear but are overpowered by the maltiness.

[50cl bottle from Aldi, Bracknell.] A cola brown pour with a loose beige head; fruity aroma; rather thin with a sweet caramel malt taste to start then some plums and raisins; leading to a chocolatey finish. A tasty porter, but rather on the sweet side.
