We’ve come along way since our humble beginnings in 1993. Hobsons may be a traditional brewery, but we are not a stickler for tradition. It is important to keep moving with the times. That’s why our birthday beer is a punchy IPA, brewed with intense British target and tropical harlequin hops. Why dirty Gertie you ask? Well, dirty Gertie number 30 of course. A simple bingo call for the magic 30 bingo ball, because that’s how many years we’ve been brewing for. Quite a feat eh? If you enjoy this IPA, as much as the Hobsons team enjoy creating it, you’re in for a treat.

20/8/2023. Bottle shared by The Blackhaddock. Pours clear bright gold with a small frothy white head. Aroma of citrus, grapefruit, herb, straw, yeast, sweet stewed fruits. Moderate sweetness, medium developing bitterness. Moderate body, slightly watery, average carbonation. Nice long bitter finish improved it.

500ml bottle (minus a Panda for Grumbo): BBE July 2024. Drank on the afternoon of 11th August 2023. Clear golden pour until the sediment arrived at the bottom of the bottle and I was joined by some sediment and some floating 'grist', it did say it was bottle conditioned, so it was my fault it's cloudy! Anyway it's fairy bitter in nature and no citrus fruits were damaged in brewing this.

Cask @ The Welly with jmgreenuk and richthevillan. Clear gold pour with a good white collar. Malty nose. Smooth malt grain on initial sip with light floral glimpses revealed in due course, moderate hop bitterness. Fine, simplistic, expected a bit more characterful hops for a 30th anniversary beer.

Cask at The Wellington, Birmingham. Poured a clear golden colour with a lasting frothy white head. The aroma is malt, yeast, light floral hops. The flavour is over moderate bitter, with a smooth, rich, herbal, floral, earthy, woody hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
