Wine barrel aged imperial stout macerated with sour cherries, sampled at BCBF. Yellowish beige, open ring for a head on a black robe with coppery edges. Aroma of elderberry juice, blackberries, dark cherries indeed, brown rum, caramel toasted coconut, blue grapes or indeed red wine, madera even, old wood. Softly tart onset with notes of blackberry and elderberry more than the sour cherries that actually went here, the soft fruity sourness mitigated by candied fig-like residual sweetness; soft carb, full body, layers of toffee, black chocolate and cappuccino acting bittersweet-malty at first but then gently dried by woody tannins and tart grapey fruitiness, while simultaneously a pronounced, bit ashy, coffee-like roasted bitterness appears as well. Warming alcohol and earthy hop elements add further complexity. Dark fruitiness all around, very solid fruit stout in that sense, if perhaps a bit more fruit acidity could have turned things in a whole other and possibly more interesting direction.

Pours blak, no real head. Scent has a smokey touch, rough roast. Taste is acidic by the cherry. Tart, very exhausting. not loving it . Very sharp.

Draught Reddish rim over black beer. Sweetish, nutty, Brazil nuts and dark booze. Sweet, raisiny, fortified red wine, red Port. Full bodied, slick, oily and sticky, light carbonation left. Sweet...

10/XI/23 - on tap @ Billies Craft Beer Festival (Antwerp), Day 1 - part 1, BB: n/a (2023-920) Thanks to NathanVC for sharing today’s beers!
Clear dark brown beer, small creamy beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: green apples, brandy, lots of alcohol, not very pleasant, floral, soapy, gingerbread. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: sourish start, weird, oxidised, rather unpleasant, lots of alcohol, funky. Aftertaste: sourish, spicy, dirty, not good, don’t like it.

On tap at Northern Monk Refectory, pours jet black with a small brown head. Aroma is full of rich cherry Frederiksdal's wine, tart cherries, and big roasted malt. Flavour is extremely rich, with loads of molasses, rich cherry wine, some tart cherries, and gentle roast. I usually dislike fruited/sour stouts, but this works beautifully. It's primarily an imperial stout, while the cherry wine barrels impart a lush elegance and depth. Very nicely done.

Tap at the Nottingham Craft beer festival 2023. Black colour with a thick dark tan head. Aroma and taste are chocolate and tart to sour cherries. Amazingly well balanced. Rich full body.
