Smeuse is our collaboration with Torn Plant, a wonderfully thoughtful minimal intervention cider outfit from Cheshire. For this collaboration we decided to fuse our saison and their cider into a synergistic example of what we both do best.

Keg @ Balance Brewing & Blending, Manchester. Mildly hazy golden colour with a glow. A good example of what this brewery is about with a saison style and texture coupled with an apple cider taste and light sweetness - with a similar aroma in this respect with excellent barrel ageing notable in this aspect too.

Bottle pour at the Balance taproom, Manchester, 26/01/24. Clear light golden blonde with a good sized white cap that settles to a swirl then hangs out. Nose is funk, vinous, grape must, hedgerow, herb. Taste comprises light vanilla oak, funk, apple core, vinous, damp cloth, lactic tang. Medium bodied, light spritzy carbonation, drying close. Solid hybrid.

Billie's Craft Beer Fest 2023, Saturday. Hazy pale yellow golden beer. Aroma and Taste of tart grapes, apples, brett, easy to drink.

Pours unclear blonde. Scent is full, apple/cider funk. Scent is sharp, apple funk, dry, mildly acidic. Bit funky. Like a very, very dry cider, but more of a hollow backbonbe. Not a big fan.

On tap at Balance, pours a hazy pale golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out the cider component upfront, with crisp apple skins, and subdued rustic farmhouse notes further back. Flavour is bone dry, with rustic saison yeast, very dry apple skins, hazy, and plenty of bugs. Expert blend of cider and saison, with a wonderfully dry and buggy finish. Excellent.
