Jeff and Brandon from Bagby Beer joined us in Huddersfield to collaborate on a Trans-Atlantic brew combining two very distinctive styles, Yorkshire bitter and West Coast Pale Ale. A malt bill using crystal, oats and wheat malt alongside our house Golden Promise provides a satisfying backbone. The beer then features an expansive combination of choice US and UK hops. A mixture of UK and US heritage yeasts provide fruity esters alongside clean drinkability.

American style pale ale by Magic Rock in collaboration with Kirin apparently; from tap at Bar Beenhouwer. Membrane-lacing, medium thick and stable, closed, off-white head on a hazy pale orange beer with amberish hue. Aroma of dried orange peel, toasted peanuts, bread crumbs, wormwood leaves, black radish peel, yellow grapefruit, dust. Crisp and dryish onset, apricot and grapefruit aspects, sharpish minerally carbonation, dry rusk- and cracker-like maltiness, bit grainy, peanutty edge; long, drying and spicy hop bitter finish, quite rooty and leafy, quinine-like with a citrus peel aspect but relatively low in hop aromatics (for the intended style); light earthy and spicy aspects linger. Dry, earthy, almost saison-ish and 'noble' hoppy, more an old school EPA than a modern APA, in fact - which I have nothing against.

Can at Rickham Cottages, 23/06/19. Clear golden copper topped with a lasting white head. Nose is caramel malts, grass, old skool tunes, pine, grapefruit, spruce. Taste comprises bitter orange, grass, light pine dusting, toasted grains, light weed. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with lightly astringent hop bitterness. Decent enough Old Skool Pale … I probably wouldn't bother to revisit but it does what it says on the tin.
