As we do every year, we brew one batch of Pils 13 with fresh, un-dried hop cones. This year we went to work with Belgian Chinook from Hoppecruyt The same day the hops were picked, they were also brewed with.

Last year's Fresh Hop version of Pils 13, this time (green) hopped with Belgian-grown Chinook. Can at Alix. Snow white, moussey, thinnish and opening head on a clear yellow blonde robe. Aroma of freshy cut grass, lemon thyme, fresh banana leaf, withering leek, white bread pulp, dried sunflower seeds. Crisp onset, sharpish in carbonation with strongly minerally effect; cereally, rounded, sweetish white-bready core under increasing 'green' hops adding a very real grass flavour (freshly mown lawn) as well as a touch of citrus (lime zest, lemongrass perhaps) and floral notes. Nice grapefruity, zesty bitterness in the finish, kept well in balance with the malt sweetness; even though I was expecting more piney aromas from Chinook, this beer is as fresh and vibrant as possible, with a nice 'grass green' character which works utterly refreshing. One I could drink by the gallon.
