Bottle at home. Pours black with a quickly disappearing beige head. Nose is dark chocolate, coffee, licorice, faint smoke. Taste is moderately sweet booze and dark malts, showcasing coffee, dark chocolate molasses and booze with bitterish hints. Closes with bittersweet finish, has a light to medium body and soft to average carbonation. Decent baltic porter and if it had more body and character it could’ve been even better.

From tap at Bierfestival Groningen 2018. Aroma is powdery chocolate with dark malt, mild notes of coffee, cocoa, and light roast. Fairly sweet flavour with a light bitterness. Body is medium, should be a bit fuller. Decent and drinkable, but lacks some oomph.

My friend, Benzai, provides a beer, I drink it. Many thanks and the best to you going forward. De Molen is the one of the highest of the high, much respect. I have a chalice on hand for this one, because it is on hand. It pours an inky dark with the barest of a circle of off-white bubbles. The nose is dark chocolate and strawberry. I take a taste, smoke, licorice, prunes, bakers chocolate and just a bit of caramel sweetness. Decently all right.

Fles. Bijna zwart van kleur. Romige melkchocolade en wat drop in zowel geur als smaak.Zoet, zelfs iets honingachtigs. Vol van smaak. Smaakt goed maar mist wat agressie door iets te weinig hop.

330ml bottle. Jet black colour with small, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Chocolately, dark malty aroma, hints of liquorice, a touch of vanilla, couverture. Taste is sweet-ish, chocolately dark malty, hints of caramel, liquorice, a touch of vanilla; well hidden alcohol. Oily to viscous, texture, smooth and soft palate, gentle carbonation. Not overly complex, a bit monotonous.

On tap @ Ghetto Something. Aroma is roasty, caramelly and nutty with hints of tobacco and berries. Pours cloudy dark brown color with thin creamy tan-like head and soft visible carbonation. Tastes of medium sweet roasted malt, nuts, molasses, berries and earthy bitterness in the aftertaste. Full body, oily texture and soft carbonation in palate. Oh yeah, oh yeah...

Pours black with a fine head. Aroma is spiced and roasty, lots of dark malts. Licorice and molasses. Big body. Flavour is again very roasty and dominated by dark malts and roasted barley. Quite bitter and not sweet at all, licorice and wood notes, molasses and coffee in the background. Finishes dry and a tad warming. A very pleasant Baltic porter. Definitely driven by the speciality malts used; both caramel and chocolate malts as well as the roasted barley are shown off but well rounded and harmonious.

Butelka 330ml (BB 19.01.2023). Niemal czarne z obfitą acz niezbyt trwałą, beżową pianą. Aromat średnio intensywny z nutami ciemnych słodów, suszonych i ciemnych owoców z subtelną nutką szlachetnego alkoholu. W smaku zdecydowanie dominują owoce ciemne i nieco suszonych plus lekki alkohol na finiszu, lekko piekący w przełyku pozostawiający przyjemby, długi posmak. Piwo jest gładkie w odbiorze, dość lekkie w odbiorze, przyjemnie się pije.

Huge thanks to Erzengel for sharing this 33cl bottle. Looks simple as all De Molen bottles, but good. Beer in the glass deep black, almost no head. Intense malty aroma. Starts heavy malty, roasty, earthy. Dry. Also some coffee notes. Finish dry-roasted malty. Nice one!
