(Draught at In De Wildeman, Amsterdam, 9 Aug 2023) Amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, hoppy nose with caramel, orange peel, bread and mandarin. Malty, fruity taste with notes of orange peel, caramel, rye bread, floral hops and a balanced citric/floral bitterness. Medium body, quite dry. Tasty and refreshing. Nice one.

Bottle. Extra Gerstebier according to the label, so knowing Butcher's Tears and mentioning the quite low alcohol percentage this is not your average Barley Wine, Color: Slightly hazy orange amber, off-white head. Aroma: Barley malt, hoppy notes. Taste: Barley malt, slightly sourish, floral and grassy hop. Herbal notes, spicy hints. Hints of grain and straw. Light to moderate sweet and modertae bitter with a little more bitterness at the dry-ish finish. Medium body, just below average carbonation. Well, what to say...? Yet another typical Butchers Tears beer. Surprising, coloring outside the lines, no wacky flavors and additions, 'just' very well brewed with a lot of craftmanship and brewing knowledge... I love this brewery!
