2023 barrel master - highland whiskey
An Imperial Stout aged in Highland Whisky barrels for 12 months. Rich chocolate and dark roast malts merge with underlying soft berry fruits and light oak. Imparting a classical Highland whisky character to this lavish stout.

Bottle from Seven Seasons Craft, Hoxton. Aromas of toffee, dark fruits, peat, liquorice toffee, chocolate biscuit, touch of smoke. Taste is spookily similar with some added brown sugar & rich whisky undertones. Boozy sweet throat warming finish. Nice.

very dark brown, with a very light brown head
aroma of peated malt whiskey, booze, moderate roasted malts. wood.
flavor is whiskey, peat smoked malts, roasted malts, honey or syrup, woody notes, i think smoked malts. a bit rough around the edges and the booze sort of got the upper hand on the roasted malts.

33 cl bottle provided by and shared with friend Frank on a trip through Canada. After the pour I see a really dark brown body and no head to speak of. The smell is fragrant with chocolate and berries. The drink is quite fine. Dark chocolate, strawberries, wood, some booziness, malt, an indication of tobacco and syrup. A good occasion made better by the beer.

330ml bottle from Buxton Brewery online shop. A black coloured pour with a thin beige head on top. Rich, sweet, roasty, malty, chocolate, caramel, whisky, dark fruit taste and aroma. Hardly noticed the 14% ABV in this one. A quality, boozy, warming imperial stout.

Bottle. Buxton online. For a big hitter it pours surprisingly clear and light. Sits in the glass a little more viscous with a leggy and lasting super sticky beige foam. Nose has fudge chocolate and toffee. Boozy wet oak. Nicely fruity too. Bit of a blackberry thing, unexpectedly. Taste is sweet and caramel like, with a little oaky bitterness. Slick and easy to drink given the ABV. In fact it’s nowhere to be seen. Caramel and a bit of vanilla oak to finish. Impressively scary easy drinking.

Bottle picked up from Buxton brewery webshop, had this at Mum and Keith's, Kempsey, Worcester, 3rd April 2024. Pours black with with a slim fast disappearing head. Chocolate, malty, roasty and bitterness. There is a considerable whiskyness on the nose, Highland whisky I note. Thick mouthfeel, some sweetness, good, in fact very good.
