Our first “semi-core” IPA. The legend of Shonks… one mile from the brewery, in the 11th century, Piers Shonks slayed Satan’s favourite dragon. Upon his own death, Shonks cheated the Devil from dragging his soul to hell by being buried in the north wall of Brent Pelham church. His tomb is still there. That deserves a beer dedication we reckon. The beer, it’s a Nelson Sauvin and Citra DDH IPA. Thick and juicy, with layer after layer of Nelson and Citra throughout both the hot and cold-side. Gooseberry, peach, mango, lime. All the senses tingling. We’ll be brewing Shonks seasonally.

500ml can taken away from Beerfly, Bedford. Light yellow, hazy with a fluffy little head and special bit of lacing. Grapefruit, gooseberry, vanilla, apricot. Sweet taste, very hop-driven. More grapefruit, stone fruits and a touch of mint. Just a little orangey bitterness in the finish. Smooth, light body, soft to medium carbonation. Really dig this.

Panda at home, thanks to Kenneth, 20/12/24. Hazed golden orange topped with a lasting just off white head. Nose is bitter orange, grass, pine needle, mandarin, papaya, airy malts. Taste comprises orange pith, grass, pine nip, melon, toasted malts, grapefruit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light drying close spiked with light juicy come grassy hop bitterness. Tidy enough IPA but have had plenty better from Baron!

Can. A light haze on this yellowish gold beer, small and short lived pale cream colour head. Light and smooth start to the palate, a very mild dryness, decent fine minerally carbonation coming through on the back end. Light malts, not thin but, notably light. Citra and Nelson deliver light bright citrus with a pretty modest but, at least detectable winey grape on the back end. The two hops combine particularly well here. A overarching light crisp pine. Nice, goes down very easy.
