Ahhh, de imperial IPA! Een bierstijl waar we heel erg van houden….maar die best lastig is om succesvol uit te voeren. Het is koorddansen tussen krachtpatserij en balans. Tussen enorme bergen hop en soepele doordrinkbaarheid.
Proef zelf of het ons gelukt is (hint: wijzelf vinden van wel).
Voor deze hopknoepert hebben we een solide moutbasis gebruikt met veel haver ook wat van de beste caramelmout. Voor de balans hebben we het bier ook een stevige bodem gegeven qua bitterheid.
En boven dit alles doen de hopgoden hun dansjes. Ruim twintig gram dry hopping per liter geeft het bier onweerstaanbare aroma’s van ananas, perzik, mango, blauwe bessen en papaya.

Tap at L.I.B.'18, Leiden: Hazy orange colored brew with an mostly dry bitter taste and some fruitiness. Very healthy doses of citrus as hints and some caramel.

Bottle. Pale Amber color. Pineapple, mango, citrus and grass in the floral aroma. Firm hopbitter flavor. White pepper, grapefruit, grass and mango. The sweetness is challenged by hops and heaps of fruit. Nice.

Tap at koht. Pours copper. Aroma is hoppy, fruity, citrus, sugar, medicinal. Flavor is sweet and bitter, fruits, citrjs, malt, sugar, pine, medicinal. Finish is sweet and boozy. Overall: ok.

Draught @ Van Moll brewpub. Clear orange color, full sized white head that lasts for quite a while. Aroma is incredibly fruity / tropical fruit hoppy. Taste lightly malts, very hoppy, fruit hoppy, fruit hoppy light bitter finish. Oily texture, medium body, suitable decent carbonation. Lovely!

On tap at Leiden LIB festival. Beer was kegged only two days prior! Aroma is fruity, citrusy and has a nice balance with the malt. Freshness of the hop comes through nicely, rather juicy, very refreshing and intensely fruity. Medium body, extremely drinkable. Flavour is as fruity and still quite juicy. Medium bitterness. A lot of citrus fruit, some exotic fruit. Malt balance is there, but this drinks more like a normal IPA rather than a double (due to its freshness). Would be intriguing to see how this develops with age. Extremely and dangerously drinkable and excellent double IPA.
