Poured into a glass, dark, almost black, kvass gives rise to a light brown head. Its aroma has a note of roasted rye bread, honey and dried raisins. It gets its distinctive rich rye bread flavour from fermented rye malt dried in a wood stove, which is made from Latvian winter wheat on the stone floor of Naukšēni Manor’s malthouse. Pilsner malt is also produced in Latvia at Staļģene. Its sweet aftertaste has a refreshing tartness.

33cl bottle from Circle K, Bauskas. Liquid rye bread. Sweet, smooth and malty with notes of wort, dark fruits and caramel. On the sweet side, but quite enjoyable.

500ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown it's almost black, fluffy beige head. Aroma of rye bread, sugar syrup. Taste is quite sweet, sugary, plenty of rye bread which is a touch burnt. Light-medium bodied. Bought to finally tick off Kvass from my styles, not much frame of reference as to whether this is a good example or not but I quite liked it even though it's not really my thing.

Spannend.

Bottle ordered from Craft Beer Station, Northampton. Aroma combines sweetness with a sour rye streak. Cloudy cola brown. Thin foamy beige head soon thins out. Surprisingly bitter streak - that rye bread has a decent amount of rye flour in it. There's a sugary fruit streak that is more obvious into the finish. Light bodied. Slick. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long slightly astringent finish. A seemingly more authentic Kvass, i.e. not just very sweet.

Tap at Valmiermuiza Embassy, Tallinn. Opaque colour and small beige head. Lots of dark rye bread in the nose. Light-bodied. Sweet rye-bread kvass flavour, solid, not artifical. Ok Kvass.
