挑戦してみたい新しいホップが手に入ったのでつくってみました。NZの2品種(新品種と、評判の生産者のNelson Sauvin)をメインに、自家栽培のカスケードを組み合わせたWest Coast StyleのIPAです。West Coast IPAといっても、昔ながらのやつではなく、今時の方。PIZZA PORTとのコラボ、ONE IN A THOUSAND的な感じといえば伝わるか。つかったホップが全く違うのと、よりうちらしく、ちょっとだけ苦目に仕上げてます。軽く曇りをおびた明るいブロンド。例えばSNOW MONKEY IPAとかと同じくらいたっぷりホップをつかっているので、香りは鮮烈です。ピンクグレープフルーツとかの柑橘の香りに、パッションフルーツのようなトロピカル感。フィニッシュには白ブドウのようなニュアンスも。度数を感じないくらいの飲み味で、ぐいぐいいけるやつです。

Bottle from Yamaoka. Pours out a medium gold. Big citrus hop nose, lightly tropical, balanced malt. Rich and fruity flavor, good malt backbone, just very well put together.

Shiga Kogen Hopdelic IPA West Coast IPA 6% This smelled awesome from the bottle and even better from the glass. Modern west coast fruity aroma, medium bodied and relatively smooth. The taste starts of fruity, I got gum drops, guava, prickly pear. It’s definitely bitter and west coast but the modern take as I don’t get that piney quality. Honestly, this is copper gold brew is great and represents the current state of west coast ipa really well. I’m wishing I had a case or at least a sixer…

Good stuff. Dank, fruity, can’t quite feel the booze which is a plus. Quite old fashioned but that is a plus point for an old fart like me.
