Despite Simplex being an ale, it has all the characteristics of an old-styled pils. It is a blond, unfiltered, unpasteurized, hoppy and bitter beer that remains low in alcohol. Resulting in a straw blonde, highly drinkable beer with plenty of flavor and character.

Taste: Refreshing, light and with a firm bitterness

hazy pale yellow colour, medium sized white head; aroma of lemongrass, fruity and and some hay notes; taste is intensively bitter with citrusy, fruity and breadcrust notes; refreshing beer

Draught @ Fermentoren, Aarhus. Pours yellow with white head, some lacing. Aroma of malt, yeast, little bread, grass, light citrus. Flavor is fairly bitter, malt, grass, citrus. Medium body, average carbonation, dry and lasting bitter finish. 040817

Tap @ Fermentoren, Aarhus. Clear yellow with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, fruity and herbal. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish. 020817

Tap @ Fermentoren, Aarhus. Nice head with good duration. Color is golden. Aroma and taste are grass, straw, hops and malt. Long bitter finish.

Bottle shared. Hazy light golden with big white head. Lots of sharp grassy hops, hay, light spicy yeast, dry pils malts, soft dried fruits. Light sweet and medium bitter. Light bodied with fizzy carbonation. Nice beer but doesn’t seem like a Kölsch at all more a saison or something.

Tap.Hazy yellow colour with medium white head.Aroma of yeast and citrus,also biscuits and melon,nice refreshing with hint of orange peel and hops really nice overall type of beer.

33cl Bottle from Beer Mania. Hazy golden colour, white head. Aroma of fruity yeast, banana, malts, bread, hint of hay, grass. Flavour is malty, light fruity/yeasty, some banana, dry, hint of lemon peel, grassy and light herbal firm bitter finish. Light bodied. Not De Ranke’s best offering IMHO, unbalanced, banana yeast is not helping here. This is ’just’ a bitter low abv Belgian Ale, not a Kölsch.
