Draft @ ML Fontainas.

75cl bottle (BBF: 21/03/2027) from Brasserie 28 by Caulier in Brussels. F: no real, some bubbles. C: dark, opaque. A: old red Porto wine, woody, dried figs, bit smoky, red berries, caramel. T: red wine oxidized, bit caramel, woody, vinegar fruity, dark grapes, bit nutty, no carbonation, bit to sour for me to be fully enjoyed and quite weird all together.

Bottle. Pours cloudy brown. Aroma is sour funk, soy sauce, red wine barrel, little acetone, rubber. Body is medium, strong rusty funk, going all over the place, metallic, more acetone, umami, sweet, but also quite sour, plums. Dryish fruity vinous palate. Quite good, but also rather odd.

Bottle (from Brasserie Caulier 28). Pours amber-brown. Aroma is sour, fruits, oak, vinegar. Flavor follows the nose, but has also acidic notes. Overall: drinkable, but not sure if it should taste this way, but this is off.

3/I/18 - 75cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ New Year's holiday (Ardennes) - BB: 21/III/27 (2018-7)

Note: bought this, despite it having 0 ratings at the time, because Toccalmatto hasn't disappointed much. Until now...
Pretty clear dark brown beer, practically no head, just a few bubbles that disappear quite fast. Aroma: lots and lots of alcohol, very oxidized, tasted like 20 year old beer, card board, dusty, some spices, sourish impression, red wine notes. Man, this does not smell very promising... MF: soft carbon, medium to light body. Taste: completely oxidized, pretty sourish, bit dusty, cardboard, completely destroyed through oxidation and age. Aftertaste: some, sourish, bit of caramel, spicy, some nutmeg maybe, really really bad.

Italian 'Scottish' ale (or rather: Scotch ale) aged on marsala barrels, a kind of Italian equivalent to sherry. At Single Trip Tasting in Puivelde near Sint-Niklaas. Loosely knit, bubbly, off-white head, very thin and unstable and vanishing in instants; misty ruddy-hued burgundy bronze robe. Aroma of a lot of oxidized sherry - or indeed marsala, dried plums, peanuts, bread crust, figs, juniper, soaking wet wood, balsamic vinegar, strawberry wine, vague smoky touch. Tart onset, grape peel, plum and blackcurrant juice effects, sweetish nectarine-like core, mild but persisting vinegary sourness cutting through the whole, somewhat astringent but balanced by a mellow, pleasant malt nuttiness, hazelnut-like in the finish, with soft bready sides; grapey and tannic effects dominate the finish, woody, strong influence of oxidized sherry, red wine vinegar-like astringency still softened by that nutty maltiness but nevertheless ending a bit vinegary - perhaps a tad too much so for its own good. With a somewhat more subtle tartness, this would have been a great modern 'old' ale.
