Schramm’s Erik the Red was named for Erik Thorvaldsson, a classic Norseman, who sailed around the North Atlantic like it was a wading pool. Erik the Red is one of Ken Schramm’s signature meads, a member of his original line-up. This bold blend of red raspberries and tart cherries has been refined and improved upon over decades of batches.

10/11/11/12/11/11

A dark burgundy red mead with aroma of raspberry jam, light acidity, light spices, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet raspberry jam with light chocolate notes, light vanilla, alcohol warmth, very nice and complex. On tap at meadery.

Another Schramm’s melomel that’s close to perfect. So god damn jammy with just enough honey character to make it interesting. Cherries & raspberries blend nicely adding plenty of dem #dimensions. Hint hot in alcohol & tannins. Give it 1-2 years & it’s a 5

375ml bottle pours with a clear purple body that tosses up some nice legs. The aroma offers up sweet honey nuanced raspberry goodness with thin ripe cherry notes in the background as well as thin honey and honey comb waxiness. The taste delivers rich deep smooth honey sweetness and then a moment later rich nectar like honey sweetened raspberry fruity jamminess. To midway it picks up a mild raspberry tannin skin like note that doesn’t do anything up against the smooth rich sweetness. Wow. This is money.
