Phase Rule is a non-adjunct Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout brewed and blended with our friend Shaun of Phase Three Brewing. A hybrid recipe which entwines our favorite stouts recipes into one, and then was aged in Bourbon, Rye and Cognac barrels. The final blend consisted of barrels of our initial brew in late 2019 with barrels from early 2021, to create the best possible blend, barrel expression, and Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout to share with you.

Out of a 375ml bottle at Ale Arsenal as part of Serpents and Stouts. Pour thick and black with small brown head. Overt roast and chocolate aroma and flavor. Vanilla and barrel with a full malt in the back half of the palate. Viscous and thick! Really nice beer.

375mL bottle thanks to Kyle, drunk 10/1/23. Syrupy viscous, dark, no head, maroon edges. Spicy, smoke-tinged, luxurious cognac notes with vanilla bean and dry choco-coffee. All wrapped up in a tight, seemingly well-attenuated package that is polished and elegant, with no sign of alcohol or sugar. Rich, refined, perfectly attenuated and textured. Dainty choco-vanilla, spicy, deep, rich cognac but no grapiness. Sweet but not too much so. Kind of reminds me of Van Winkle BBT in its polished, flawlessly executed nature. Clean, almost snappy for the style. Rich. Hints of tobacco throughout.
