A deep, rich, ruby red barleywine. Softly sweet with indulgent fudge and caramel flavours from the Caroni rum casks. Dried fruits, brown sugar and molasses lead into a dry finish.

440ml can Sophie's Beer Store. Clear reddish mahogany appearance modest off white head. Aroma of toffee, rum, bread and butter pudding. Taste continues in a similar fashion, strong alcohol warmth rounding off a smooth balanced presentation, very smooth toffee / rum integration. Lovely beer.

Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours hazy deep reddish - brown with a small, frothy off-white head. The aroma has heady notes of sweetness, intoxicating sticky dark fruits, plum, prune dried cherry, figgy pudding, vanilla fudge, toffee crisp, rum & raisin, fruit cake and bread & butter pudding. The taste is slick, oily, unctuous, sweet dried dark fruits, nice figgy pudding vibes, plum, prune, date, rum & raisin, hint of cherry, dried cranberry, jammy, jam rolly poly, vanilla custard, Bakewell tart, oak, toffee, fudge, touch of spice, light tannin and touch of spicy alcohol with a drying, warming finish. Medium to fulsome body, fine carbonation and slick mouth feel. Quite some depth to it. My description makes it sound like it would be too sweet, but it's not.

Can from The Beerhive. Clear ruby body with a beige head. No visible carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of orange and marzipan. Flavour of cherry, brown sugar and plum with a slightly boozy finish. Medium body with a slick, oily texture. Light fizz. This is superb - a lovely, warning sipper. Great flavour and the effect from the barrel ageing is nice and subtle.

Can from Appellation Wines. Appearance - deep amber to brown. Creamy, beige coloured head. Nose - rum 'n' raisin up front, then burnt wood. Taste - toffee, rum 'n' raisin, burnt wood, light booze. Palate - full bodied, creamy middle and sweet finish that is tempered by the dry wood note. Overall - great stuff. Luxurious!
