Huge thanks to Erzengel for sharing this one! Beer in the glass dark brown, almost black. Small head. Malty-smokey aroma. Starts intense malty, roasty, smokey. Notes of wood and bacon, but not too intense. The alcohol is well hidden. Finish well balanced, fine roasty-smokey-malty. Nice one!

9/10/10/12/9/11

Dark brown beer with a beige lacing. Aroma of dark caramelized malt, raisins, liquorice. Taste of strong caramelized dark malt, mild smoked malt, bacon, wood, liquorice.
Smooth mild nose. Sweetish malt and smoke. The beer starts grainy peated. Very dry, intense roast, dry peated. Soft malty finish, hazelnuts, grain, floralness. Nuts and roasted grain with a nice smoke in the aftertaste. Great. --- Beer merged from original tick of Edition N° 10 - Jubilator on 29 Mar 2024 at 17:53 - Score: 7. 0,75 l bottle from Bi Lütts, Wagenfeld. BB 12/24. Surprising a lot of pressure into the bottle. Nearly black in the glass, short living beige head. Malt and choco on the nose, increasing smoked ham. Taste starts malty with sweetness and caramel, parallel some smoke but not a lot. Dark fruits, some choco. Mid bitterness. Low carbonation. Dangerous easy to drink.

0.33 l bottle from the brewery's web shop, best before June 2024. Clear, very dark ruby with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently smoky and slightly fruity aroma of molasses, raisins, smoked plum and a touch of chocolate. Rather sweet, malty, moderately bitter, gently fruity, quite smoky and a bit roasty taste of caramel, chocolate, raisins, smoked plum, roasted nuts and some chocolate, followed by a medium long, gently bitter, slightly dry finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Tasty Rauchbock, quite fruity for the style, not as smoky as Schlenkerla and the likes but rather well-balanced. Good one.

330ml bottle. Opaque, darkest brown, almost black colour with weak ruby shimmer and minimally late awakening, average to huge, thick, dense, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Smoky, dark malty aroma, notes of smoked ham, hints of smoked wood, a touch of smoked eel, dark chocolate, barbeque sauce, treacle. Taste is smoky, dark and caramel malty, notes of smoked ham, hints of dark caramel, a touch of dark chocolate, treacle, barbeque sauce, some bitter hop. Dissolved sugar enriched, watery texture, smooth and soft, simultaneously slightly dry palate, medium to fine, dense, prickly carbonation. Well balanced, fairly complex, could still have a fuller body - pretty good. Eventually a really courageous effort from Barre in this series - they find themselves rewarded with a really good beer. Hopefully the standard Barre customer will recognize the quality.
