0.75 l bottle from 'Flaschenfreund', best before November 2021, cellared for over a year. A little hazy, deep reddish amber with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish-malty, gently smoky-medicinal, moderately fruity aroma of caramel, peat, iodine, light sultanas and a touch of candied apricot. Quite sweet, malty, rather smoky-medicinal and slightly fruity taste of caramel, honey, peat, iodine, some candied apricot and hints of sultanas, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, rather smoky-medicinal, slightly woody-dry and a little salty finish. Medium to full body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Tasty peat forward Bock, quite intense but still balanced, astonishingly effervescent and dry.

Fläschla (750ml): Hazy, Copper coloured, loose and slowly collapsing off-white head, moderate sweetish-bitter aroma of fruity caramel with peaty; traces and a mild herbal bitterness; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied, quite soft; lingering sweet-bitter caramelly finish, increasing traces of peat and hops in the aftertaste. All in all a quite well rounded Doppelbock, unfortunately a bit too peaty for me...
