Ours porter harks back to the early-life Porter, where Brown Malt plays protagonist, producing a subtly lower colour aspect than the near black Porters that we find most often today. Still rich and dark with a touch of mahogany glinting through from a modest use of Black Malts - a deep and creamy beer remains with chocolate notes, a little berry and the OG Boddingtons yeast adds that touch more Northern hedgerow fruit.

Alongside this we take the Northern Brewers hop - originally grown up our neck of the woods - offering up a little grassy-pine and a good affirming bitterness.

Half-pint, cask at Microbar. Shared with Finn. Off-white head over a deep dark brownish body, scattered lacing. Inviting roasted malty aromas, chocolate and bread. Tasty with impacts of nuts, earth, and chocolate. Mid-sweet, roasted finish. Pretty nice. (Manchester, 22.03.2024).

Cask at GBBF'23, day two, 02/08/23. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a beige cap that retains well. Nose is chocolate, dark malts, light charr, toffee crisp. Taste comprises mellow roast, chocolate biscuit, dried fruit rinds, brown bread. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close. Okay porter ... smells good but comes over a touch thin in the execution.

Stockport Beer Festival 2023. Dark hazy amber but as its notes suggest it does taste like a porter, and is very easy drinking within this style. There's roasted notes, which are best in its aroma and aftertaste.

Cask @ Jack In The Box, Manchester. Very dark clear amber-gold with a thin head. Has light roasted malt notes in its nose, which in taste are even lighter so not very stated - there's some sweetness to what is there though. Its porter style is perhaps best in its aftertaste.

Cask at Brewery Tap, Chester. Pours a dark chestnut with a small foamy cream head. In the nose there are roast malts and a hint of vanilla. Malts still to the fore in the mouth along with liquorice, some dark fruits and traces of toffee. A little hoppiness can be detected after a while. It’s OK – nothing to write home about.
