"So what's going on ere' then?" asks the elf. "Black Pale Ale makes no sense at all!"
"We agree completely" said the brewer, "but what else do you call a bottle - fermented black ale that tastes like american pale ale if you close your eyes?"
Ere's to your elf!

Dark brown color, small steady beige head. Aroma has light toastyness and caramel. Light-bodied. Some caramel, ash, toastyness maltyness and liquorice. Some yeasty notes. Easy and not much hops to talk about "black IPA". More like it says: black pale ale.

500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%. Very dark ruby colour, nearly black. Moderate beige head. Moderate aroma of roast malts, notes of mild coffee, hints of piney hops. Medium dry flavour with some piney hops and mild roasty notes. Okay as a thirstquencher, but nothing particularly "christmassy" about it.

A colablack beer, a head is medium and beige. Aroma has mild breadyness, fruitness, wood and chalk. Taste has bread, some fruits and berries, some bitterness, slightly musty end. Quite light bodied, but that’s not bothering. What style is this, ESB? Useless and trivial beer.
