"We agree completely" said the brewer, "but what else do you call a bottle - fermented black ale that tastes like american pale ale if you close your eyes?"

Bottle from HOTM. Pours dark brown with small beige head. Aroma of sweet malts, light roast, flora, citrus and spice noted hops. Taste is light roast, toast, sticky caramel, grapefruit, citrus, mild bitter ashy finish. Light to medium bodied, dry Its quite nice, a little underrated, although I accept if you are going to put it up against other Black IPAs it is certainly below average.

Bottle at home, 20th November 22. Pours black as treacle. aroma is roasted malts, light caramel. Taste is bitter, roasted malts, liquorice, burnt sugar, bitter finish. It’s not a bad beer at all, although not a classic BIPA

Bottle. Black/dark brown with a small whiteish/beige head. Very mild aroma of citrus fruits, butterscotch and a handful of diacetyl. Taste of lightly roasted malts, some citric fruitiness, red berries and minerals. Lasting bitterness. Thin and metallic. Medium carbonation. Just barely ok.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Appearance - dark brown to black with red chinks. Off white attractive head. Nose - pine and grapefruit pith. Fruit loaf follows that in. Taste - more fruit loaf, a touch of candied lemon and orange and some citrus zest too. Palate - rich and medium bodied. Crunchy in texture. Dry crunchy finish. Overall - enjoyed this. I appear to have been drinking a different beer from most previous reviewers. Accurate to the style it is not. It's somewhere between Mild and ESB.

50 cl bottle @ home. BBE 19.09.2020. Aroma has licorice and funky yeasty tones. Flavour has licorice, funky yeasty tones, Belgian vibes and mild spicy tones. Not a black IPA by taste and a bit unusual otherwise too. But I like it.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a clear, dark brown with an orange hue and a dense and lively off-white head leaving quite some lacework. Very subdued aroma, hardly anything at all. Medium body, slightly roasty, vague hint of hops and a dry and bitter finish. Pretty blah to be honest. 051217
