A California-style IPA with a Belgian twist
Stone Cali-Belgique IPA features a complex and surprising combination of flavors, but behind the fancy title is the simply delicious Stone IPA. The addition of a carefully selected strain of Belgian yeast adds banana and spice notes to the hoppy brightness of our flagship IPA. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.
This beer was created in 2008 when we used Stone IPA as the propagation wort for fermenting our Stone 08.08.08 Vertical Epic Ale. We liked what the Belgian yeast flavors added to Stone IPA, so we kept brewing it and eventually released it as one of our year-round beers.

Brewed in Berlin, 33cl can. Fresh and dry nose. The beer starts fresh and smooth, lots of fresh and slightly sweet Belgium yeast with spices and great floral hops! The beer is moderate bitter, nice earthy intense bitter hops with sticky parts and fresh hop oils. Great and fantastic floral hops. Fantastic depth with a round and smooth slightly sweetish body. Great!

Can at home. Clear golden with fluffy white head. Lots of grapefruit and lime, grassy, sweet malts, orange, dough, cloves, honey, cardamom, green leaves. It has indeed some US hops and otherwise it’s close to a filtered not too yeasty Belgian blond ale. Medium sweet and almost medium bitter. Medium bodied with a bit slick feel.

0,15l from tap at Bevog Festival shared with iznogud. golden clear shiny color, medium big white head. smells of spices, light belgian yeast, peppery, bit pukeish, bit parfumy, light leathery. not that exciting smell. full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of belgian yeast, spices, bit candy, some sweet herbs, peppery. finishes sweet with light dryness and belgian yeasty and peppery notes. decent but not much ipa character, overall just ok.
