A strong ale that balances sweet malt sugars with the aroma and bitterness of Fuggle, Pilgrim, Cascade and Golding hops. Brewed with fresh spring water from the South Downs, in celebration of the Easter Holiday.

Bottle at home after a long day! Good pour, good head and I got a perfect temperature. Too sweet for me on the first mouthful so now having it with chilli heatwave doritos. They have done better.....

Bottle from the brewery, Lewes. This was well made and a classic English strong ale but it didn't tickle too strongly. Mahogany gold.

Bottle from the Royal Oak. Rich, estery, hoppy nose. Apricots, orange, pear. Definitely a Belgian-like yeast character. Very spicy. Caramel. Deep orange to amber, slightly hazy, with lace. Flavor is caramel and honey malts, biscuits, fruit, marmalade, light vanilla. Grassy. Herbal, bitter hop finish. Full, silky body. Lovely stuff.

500ml bottle from the brewery. It pours clear mahogany brown with a lasting yellowish - white head. The aroma is rich, earthy, woody, brown bread, leafy hops, rivita, toffee, dried fruits, raisin, fruit cake, touch of spice. The taste is dry, bitter, toothy, chewy, brown bread, light tannin, spice, old leather sofa, varnished wood, toffee, salted caramel, spicy action, fruit cake, dried grass, leafy and a kick of alcohol to keep everything in check. Fulsome body and fine to moderate carbonation. Robust, chewy and big on the malt. A refreshing change from a deluge of hazy IPAs.
