The latest addition to Boneyard’s growing family of beers – a 14-percent imperial stout, dubbed Suge Knite, and pronounced just like the infamous gangsta rap producer – is the Evander Holyfield of ales: a serious heavyweight.
Inspired by another oversize stout, the Dark Lord, from Indiana’s 3 Floyds brewery, with whom Boneyard Brewmaster Tony Lawrence previously collaborated on Boneyard’s Cascadian ale, Armored Fist. Suge Knight is a massive beer that Lawrence said took some real coaxing throughout the brewing process. The result is a near masterpiece that is proving popular with people who might not usually reach for a Russian stout at the end of their shift. Stay stout, Bend.

Taster at Hops & Bottles. Black, still pour, a few traces of bubbles. Sweet, roasty aroma. Taste is brown sugar, roasty, burnt toast, sweet. As a straight up RIS, it's spot on. Alcohol warmth throughout. Solid stout.

Poured from the tap @ Darby’s Kits. Black with tan head. Mild chocolate and roast malt with a boozy hit. Decent, but quality of the chocolate and roast seems a bit standard. Better options available.

Draught at Darby's Gastown, Vancouver
Black colour with brown head. Lean body, at least it doesn't seem to be boozy, moderately roasty, light glue, with some trace of green apple in the aroma. Warming alcohol in the finish.
Not too bad, but also not a top Imperial Stout.

Draught @ Darby's. Dark brown. Thin, bubbly head. On the nose, alcohol, chocolate, a touch of esters fruitiness, but mostly this is just big and brash. Deep fruity and alcoholic character, some chocolate notes. In the deep, rich fruitiness and a touch of roast this comes across like an imperial foreign stout. Rather rough and undiginified, though, so I guess it's well-named.

On tap. Pours black with light head. Aromas of licorice, dark berries, and acidic black coffee. Flavors of bitter coffee, coconut extract, mineral water, slick roasted malts and sharp coffee liqueur.

Glass at Darby's Gastown on Halloween party with Christina and her friends. Pours an almost black with a beige head. Aroma is very fruity like a bubble gum, green apple notes. Taste is similar. Ok.
